5 ways to keep your skin healthy while stuck at home

If you're currently working from home (WFH) or self-isolating, you're probably staying inside as much as possible. Social distancing has allowed us to ease up on some of our routines. We have a chance to put on our most comfortable PJs, and skip the daily makeup to let our skin breathe. Although there's time to give our skin a "vacation", staying indoors all day can cause unintended damage if neglected. So here are some best practices for keeping your skin healthy during this time.

Tip #1

Keep your skin makeup free

If you're used to applying makeup regularly, try taking this time to give your skin a break. Going barefaced has many benefits. As makeup can sit heavily on top of your skin, forgoing your usual makeup routine can help your skin take in more oxygen. The extra oxygen helps repair and regenerate skin for a healthier look. You'll also help reduce the number of breakouts on your face. Makeup can contribute to clogged pores which aggravates the skin, leading to breakouts. Going make-up free also means more time for your self-care routine!

Tip #2

Remember to cleanse your face

Barefaced or not, it's still super important to remember to cleanse. Dirt, grime, and sweat will still accumulate even if you're indoors and makeup free. So washing your face twice a day is crucial to keeping your skin clean, healthy, and free from breakouts.

SPF is key

Being inside all day and not getting any direct sunlight doesn't mean you're off the hook for wearing sunscreen. Even when you're indoors, sunlight can be damaging to your skin. Some UV rays can pass right through windows in your home, exposing your skin to the damaging effects of the sun. Make sure to be extra diligent about your SPF routine to protect your skin and keep it healthy.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Indoor air can get dry from fans and air conditioners running all the time. So staying indoors for too long can leave your skin feeling dehydrated. This can cause itching, flaking, and feelings of tightness around your skin. Or exacerbate existing skin problems such as eczema and acne. We also live in a time where personal hygiene is very important. Over washing can lead to dryness and irritation, so it's crucial to keep your skin hydrated. Try adding a hydrating serum such as hyaluronic acid alongside your favorite moisturizer.

Don't touch your face

Touching your face is a huge no-no when it comes to healthy skin. Including popping a pimple or leaning your face against your hand. Touching your face with unwashed hands can spread dirt, oil, and bacteria. Which can lead to clogged, pores, breakouts, and scarring. Try to touch your face only when your hands are clean, or you're applying skin care products.
